Dr. Ron Bennett, School of Engineering, was honored by the Engineering Board of Governors Feb. 19 in a ceremony hosted by Dr. Tom Rochon, Dr. Mark Dienhart and Dr. Gene Scapanski. St. Thomas has agreed with the board to rename it in honor of Founding Dean Ron Bennett. The Engineering BOG intends to raise a $1 million endowed scholarship that will fund four engineering students each year.
Dr. J. Thomas Ippoliti, College of Arts and Sciences (Chemistry Department), gave an invited lecture, “Chemical Chameleons: From Photochromes to Chemical Sensors,” Feb. 7 at ExxonMobil Corporate Research in Annandale, N.J. The lecture described research that Ippoliti and his students have done in the field of color-changing molecules that serve as diagnostic tools.
Mark Jensen, University Relations, has photographs in the play “Peace Crimes: The Minnesota 8 vs. the War.” The play, sponsored by the History Theater, the Playwrights Center and the University of Minnesota Theater Department, opened Feb. 22 at the University of Minnesota's Rarig Center. Jensen's photography also is shown in the Twin Cities Public Television production “Peace Crimes – Backstage,” which aired Feb. 23 on TPT Channel 17.
Dr. Lisa Waldner, College of Arts and Sciences (Sociology and Criminal Justice Department) and Jillian Berg ’03, are the authors of the lead article, “Explaining Anti-Gay Violence Using Target Congruence: An Application of Revised Routine Activities Theory,” in the peer-reviewed journal Violence and Victims, Vol. 23.
