Dr. Sanjeev Bordoloi, Opus College of Business (Decision Sciences Department), presented a paper, "Is Setup Cost Invisible in Service Operations?" at the national conference of the Production and Operations Management Society in May. Bordoloi also chaired the session, “Structural Considerations in Services.”
Dean Maines, president of the SAIP Institute at the Opus College of Business, co-led a workshop, “Program Assessment: Developing Meaningful Ethics and Compliance Data to Demonstrate the Effectiveness of Your Program,” at the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics’ seventh annual Compliance and Ethics Institute Sept.14-17 in Chicago.
Dr. Mark Neuzil, College of Arts and Sciences (Communication and Journalism Department) and director of the Office for Mission, is the author of an article, "Hope Or Hype," on the possible use of algae as a biofuel in the latest issue of Momentum, the magazine of the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Lon Otto, College of Arts and Sciences (English Department), wrote a short story, “Crawl Space,” published in the summer issue of Colorado Review. In July he taught a class in the Iowa Summer Writing Festival on revising book-length fiction and narrative nonfiction; he also gave a gave a University of Iowa talk, “Big Deals,” about some of the fundamental decisions writers face.
Michael Sarafolean, Opus College of Business, put together a 77-person team together for the third annual PurpleRide Twin Cities for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Sept. 13 in Maple Grove. His was the leading fundraising team, bringing in over $24,000 and counting. Sarafolean lost his wife and father to pancreatic cancer. Kate Ortman ’04 co-chaired this year's bike ride. She lost her mother to pancreatic cancer over 11 years ago.
Dr. Vanca Schrunk, College of Arts and Sciences (History Department), translated an article, “When a Legionaire Falls in Love with Hvar,” which appeared in the August issue of the Croation edition of Nautica magazine. The article details Schrunk's archaeological project in Croatia this summer. UST students Madi Bruber and Ericka Ashley worked with Schrunk on the project. Dr. Barbara Shank, School of Social Work, and UST student Bill Smith volunteered on the project.
Dr. John Wendt, Opus College of Business (Ethics and Business Law Department), is the author of an article, “2007: The Year of the Strike, Troubles on Broadway and in Hollywood,” that has been accepted for publication by the Ethics and Critical Thinking Quarterly Journal.
