Public Safety Advisory: Macalester Reports Several Recent Thefts

Public Safety would like to advise the University of St. Thomas community of a crime alert recently issued by the Macalester College Safety and Security Department.

On Monday, Feb. 17, MAC Safety and Security reported several thefts that recently occurred on its campus, primarily in Dewitt Wallace Library, Theater Building and Old Main. Several items were taken from purses and backpacks. There was no known suspect information.

Public Safety has not received reports indicating a similar spike in activity recently on the UST campus. However, community members are encouraged to note the safety tips below and always be mindful of their personal property.

UST crime prevention tips:

  • Do not leave your purses, laptops, wallets, cash or other valuables unsecured in plain sight or unattended in public areas for even a short period of time.
  • Report crimes or suspicious activity to Public Safety immediately.
  • It takes a few seconds for a thief to enter a residence, room, or office and leave with your valuables.
  • Be alert to any people in buildings or residence halls who behave suspiciously. You know the areas that you live and work in best.
  • Remember suspect information, including approximate age, height, weight and details on hair, clothing, jewelry, scars, tattoos, last known direction of travel - anything noticeable.

Report crime confidentially or anonymously by e-mailing PSTIPS@stthomas.edu or calling (651) 962-TIPS (8477).
