Each year, St. Thomas students who have traveled abroad submit their photos for the International Education Photo Contest. Below are the best in two categories – A Sense of Place and An Intercultural Experience. During the 2004-05 academic year, a total of 829 students studied abroad. While Europe remains the top destination, 2004-05 saw a significant increase in the number of students traveling outside Europe, including four students at the American University in Cairo
A new destination was Mali, West Africa, where engineering, French and communication studies students collaborated to support onsite projects through mechanical design, language translation and video production. Among the many benefits gained as the result of studying abroad, students often identify increased flexibility, appreciation of difference or diversity, and a sense of independence.
