On Tuesday, April 29, Bill Browning will speak on green development as part of the Opus Distinguished Speakers series at the Opus College of Business.
Browning has a bachelor’s in environmental design from the University of Colorado and a master’s of science in real estate development from MIT. While at MIT, he received the MIT Center for Real Estate’s Public-Sector Fellowship and the Charles H. Spaulding Award.
In 1991, Browning founded the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Green Development Services, which researches and provides consulting on environmentally responsive real estate development. In 1999, Green Development Services received the President’s Council for Sustainable Development/Renew America prize.
Browning is co-author of textbooks on green development and sustainable building as well as co-author of “Greening the Building and the Bottom Line,” a study of increased worker productivity in energy-efficient buildings. He has been named one of five people “Making a Difference” by Buildings magazine and has been selected as an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects. In 2002, he served on the national steering group for the AIA Committee on the Environment.
Most recently, Browning co-founded Terrapin Bright Green LLC, a firm dedicated to creating high-performance sustainability strategies for governments, corporations and large-scale developments.
