College of Business Launches New Department

Department of Decision Sciences

In conjunction with being named a Sun Center of Excellence, the College of Business is launching a new department, the Department of Decision Sciences. The department will teach and develop new approaches toward managerial practice via technology through the business curriculum.

The Decision Sciences Department was formed by combining two groups: business statistics, formerly housed in the Marketing Department, and operations and technology program elements drawn from the Management Department. Courses that fall within the domain of the department include the operations management concentration on the undergraduate level, and, on the graduate level, operations, technology and statistics courses.

The new department was formed because the Management Department was very large relative to other departments within the College of Business. All but one of the 10 fulltime faculty members now within the Decision Sciences Department were housed in the Management Department.
