Joshua White, a student in the Health Care UST MBA program and author of “Haiti Waits” in our spring 2009 issue, provided updates on his work in Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake. The mobile medical clinics with which he works now operate under the umbrella of World Wide Village (www.worldwidevillage.org). The teams went to Haiti to help with the aftermath of the earthquake, and White was able to provide information, which was posted at www.stthomas.edu/magazine/2010/Winter/haiti.html.
As we went to press, the death toll from the earthquake was at 212,000. An estimated 300,000 people were injured. Additionally, it is believed that 250,000 homes were destroyed, leaving more than 1 million people homeless, and 30,000 businesses lost.
