Joanna Nute, executive director of external relations for the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, retired this summer after 12 years with the college.
Nute joined the Opus College of Business in 1999 and was initially responsible for developing and managing the Opus Distinguished Speakers program. In this role, Nute attracted such notable speakers as Bill Gates, Thomas Friedman and, most recently, David Brooks. Under Dean Christopher Puto, her role changed to focus more broadly on external affairs. She continued to oversee speakers, as well as handle events such as the graduate commencement for the Opus College of Business. One of her chief roles was that of publisher of B. magazine. She worked on B. from the first issue in fall 2003 through the spring 2010 issue. Under her leadership as publisher, B. won several awards from the Minnesota Magazine Publishers Association.
Prior to joining the Opus College of Business, Nute worked for several years as a marketing consultant for RBC Dain Rauscher. She began her career as a special education teacher, tutoring academically challenged elementary school children in reading, mathematics and language. In addition, Nute served on the governing boards of the Guthrie Theater Supporting Cast, Minneapolis Junior League, Minnesota Alliance for Arts in Education, Search Institute Action Board and National Retiree Volunteer Center.
The new publisher for B. magazine is Lisa Guyott, director of marketing communications for the Opus College of Business.
