In September 2003, the MBA in Medical Group Management program celebrated its 10-year anniversary with events for students and alumni. The annual William E. Petersen Lectureship was held Friday, Sept. 5, with guest lecturer Dr. Deborah Powell, dean of the University of Minnesota Medical School. In addition, alumni were invited to a two-and-a-half-day seminar. On Sept. 6, students and alumni socialized at a barbecue on Lake Minnetonka.

Designed for relevance in the ever-changing market, the medical group management program was developed in collaboration with the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American College of Medical Practice Executives. As CEO of MGMA, Fritz Wenzel was instrumental in bringing about the partnership of these associations and St. Thomas. Currently, Wenzel serves as the program’s academic director and lead faculty.

In 2001, the MBA in Medical Group Management was the first predominately distance-learning program in the United States to receive accreditation from the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration.
