Michael Dougherty, founder and chairman of Dougherty Financial Group LLC, is the 2005 recipient of the John F. Cade Entrepreneur of the Year Award, to be presented at the Entrepreneurs Award Dinner on May 4. (See Page 7 for more information on the awards dinner.) In addition to his role with Dougherty Financial Group, Dougherty controls and operates several asset management, securities and commercial lending businesses. He was chairman of Public Securities Association in 1991 and 1992, and he previously served on the board of directors of Treasury Bank, N.A. He currently serves as a director of Definity Health Corp. and as chairman of Allina Hospitals and Clinics. He is a trustee of the University of St. Thomas.
The Cade Award honors individuals who recognize opportunity, acquire resources and subsequently develop an organization to realize that opportunity; contribute freely of their own time to assist others in entrepreneurial endeavors; share their talents for the betterment of the community; and are models of the high standards and values taught at St. Thomas. The award was established by the late Molly Cade in memory of her husband, John Cade ’70, founder of Cade Industries. Past recipients of the Cade Award include William Reiling, Ann Winblad, Richard Schulze, Dorothy Dolphin and Gerald Rauenhorst. The Cade family continues to honor John Cade's entrepreneurial endeavors by supporting the Morrison Center for Entrepreneurship's annual award dinner.
