The University of St. Thomas School of Law has been recognized in a recent article by The National Jurist magazine as being the top school for the number of externship placement opportunities per student. Stating that, “The University of St. Thomas far exceeds all other ABA-accredited law schools in terms of placements,” the article addresses the growing trend among law schools to provide externship opportunities.
Senior Assistant Dean for External Relations Lisa Brabbit said in the article, “It’s so important for students to have a connection with a lawyer or judge in the community … we realized law school alone can’t do it. Context is so critically important to development.”
Since its founding, the School of Law has made a significant commitment to the Mentor Externship program, which is now under the direction of Judith Rush. The program is unique for providing one-on-one mentoring relationships for every student, every year of their law school experience. It has been recognized nationally, receiving the E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award by the American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Professionalism.
This year’s list of top schools for externships can be found in the online edition of The National Jurist magazine. (Registration may be required.)
