School of Law names director of Schoenecker Law Library
University of St. Thomas School of Law Dean Thomas Mengler announced Thursday that Ann Bateson will join the school of law on July 1 as director of the Schoenecker Law Library, associate dean and professor of law.
Bateson currently is director of the law library at William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, a position she has held since 1989.
Bateson earned a B.A. from the College of St. Catherine, an M.A. in library science from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota, where she graduated cum laude.
During her career, Bateson has built an outstanding library collection and staff. She has taught courses in lawyering skills, federal tax research, criminal law and legislation.
Bateson also co-wrote one of the leading textbooks on legal research, The Process of Legal Research (now in its sixth edition). She has led the transformation of the Ugandan legal system by helping to compile, revise and publish the Laws of the Republic of Uganda (a 28-volume undertaking).
Bateson has held leadership and service roles with the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, the American Association of Law Libraries and the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries.
“I have no doubt that under Ann Bateson’s stewardship, the Schoenecker Law Library will continue its progress toward becoming an excellent center for legal research,” Mengler said.
