St. Thomas’ culinary staff members complete state certification program
The University of St. Thomas Food Service Department over the past year has participated in the Minnesota Food Manager Serv-Safe certification program.
Under the direction of Todd Empanger, director of Food Service, 25 members of the university’s culinary staff have successfully completed the course and are certified food handlers in the state of Minnesota.
Topics covered in the program included proper food handling, sanitation, prevention of food-borne illnesses, equipment maintenance, supplier monitoring and employee education.
All St. Thomas Food Service locations are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health; as required, each location has a certified food manager. Each area has as least one certified food manager and some have more than one.
“Quality food and excellent service are goals of the Food Service,” Empanger said. “The continuing education of our culinary staff helps to achieve these goals.”
