After serving five years as the University of St. Thomas’ executive director of institutional diversity, Dr. Lawrence Potter Jr. has accepted a new position as chief diversity officer, associate dean and tenured professor of English at Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn.
Potter’s last day at St. Thomas will be July 30. An interim director will not be appointed.
Over the past year, Potter has been on leave from St. Thomas while participating in an American Council on Education (ACE) fellowship at DePaul University.
“Together, members of the university community have covered many of Dr. Potter’s responsibilities while he has been on leave,” explained Dr. Susan Alexander, special assistant to the president. “The joint effort is deeply appreciated.”
“As with all resignations,” she said, “the university will assess needs and consider opportunities for reorganization and reallocation before undertaking longer-term hiring.
“The university wishes Dr. Potter well in his new position and is grateful for his time here,” Alexander said.
