Suicide Prevention Benefit to Honor Memory of St. Thomas Alumnus

Friends and family of Jimmy Wells ’06 will host a fundraising dinner and silent auction to raise funds in his name for scholarships, suicide prevention and a memorial tree along Summit Ave near the St. Thomas campus. The benefit will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Shamrocks Bar and Grill at 995 West 7th St., St. Paul. The evening also will include live music played by two bands, Tree Party followed by The Brute Squad starting at 9:30 p.m.

Also that day, donation-based yoga classes in Wells’ memory will be held in multiple locations around the world. In St. Paul, all are invited to participate in a yoga class at 6 p.m. at River Garden Yoga Center, 455 West 7th St., St. Paul. Call (651) 270-6643 for more information.

Jimmy Wells graduated from St. Thomas in 2006 with a degree in electrical engineering. His life was cut short by suicide last fall following a lengthy battle with vertigo. Wells’ mother, Marianne, hopes to spread awareness and understanding about suicide through the benefit. She also founded Jimmy’s Way, an organization dedicated to bringing the misunderstanding of suicide out from the shadows and into the light through increased awareness and acceptance for all.

Visit the Jimmy’s Way website or Facebook page for more information about the June 23 fundraiser. If you cannot attend, you also may contribute to Jimmy’s Way through CrowdRise or give toward the Jimmy Wells Scholarship at St. Thomas (indicate this fund under “special instructions”).
