Former Tommie sprint star Roman Cress, a 2003 St. Thomas alumnus, is representing his home country, Marshall Islands, at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Now a school administrator in Brooklyn Park, 31-year-old Cress is one of five athletes representing this Pacific nation at its first Olympics appearance. Cress marched in the opening ceremonies Aug. 8 and ran in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash last Friday, Aug. 15.

Cress's time was 11.18 seconds in the first round of competition for 72nd place among 80 runners, and it did not qualify him to advance to the next round, but he still was proud to represent his country. Learn more about Cress's road to the games here and his Olympic performance here.
