UST faculty member Heid Erdrich to read from her new poetry collection today
Dr. Heid Erdrich of the St. Thomas English Department will read from her latest collection of poetry, The Mother's Tongue, at the next Multicultural Monday event from noon to 12:30 p.m. today, Nov. 7, in the Commuter Center (lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center).
Bring your lunch and enjoy the reading in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.
American Indian poet Joy Harjo called Erdrich's book a "powerful treatise on the transformative state of mothering." Another American Indian poet, Sherman Alexie, wrote, "funny, sexy, rowdy and surprising, these poems pretty much cover the entire human existence."
The book was published by Cambridge, England-based Salt Publishing, which is beginning a series of books, Earthworks, by indigenous writers.
