St. Thomas photographer Mike Ekern has received an honorable mention award from the University Photographers Association of America for his work on the "Feats of Strength" video on strongman competitor Dave Ostlund in St. Thomas magazine.
The video and story in the fall 2010 issue chronicled the training habits of Ostlund, a 2003 alumnus who has competed in 19 states and 12 countries during his decade-long career.
Earlier this year, sports information director Gene McGivern won a “best in district” College Sports Information Directors of America award for the magazine story on Ostlund.
