What is your view of the "N" word?
The Black Empowerment Student Alliance will host a panel discussion on the "N" word tonight.
The student organization hopes to provide a respectful setting for everyone to share their questions, perspectives and feelings without being criticized. The discussion, open to the public, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in the Foley Theater.
The panel will include professors, students and staff who are for and against the use of the "N" word. The discussion will begin with a history of when the word was first generated to what its meaning is today.
The event will include an open discussion between the audience and panel members. To spark the discussion, at the beginning of the program audience members will be given questions that they can ask, or they can ask their own questions. Event organizers are hoping for a lot of audience participation so every question can be answered and that everyone will leave with a full understanding of and maybe even a new perspective on the "N" word.
