Dr. John Buri, a University of St. Thomas author and professor of psychology, will discuss “15 Keys to Finding Love for a Lifetime” in a lecture at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, in James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall in Anderson Student Center on the university’s St. Paul campus.

The lecture, free and open to the public, is sponsored by St. Thomas’ Family Studies Program. Free pizza and soda will be served.
In his talk, Buri will share insights from his new book Intentional Dating: When You're Ready to Leave Behind the Liars, Losers and Lemons – 15 Keys to Finding Love for a Lifetime. Copies of the book will be available for purchase following the lecture. Buri, a member of the St. Thomas faculty since 1976, also wrote a marriage book for men, How to Love Your Wife.
“We often think about love as simply a matter of the heart,” said Dr. Carol Bruess, director of the Family Studies Program, “but in reality, successful long-term, life-giving love almost always involves both the head and the heart. Come and find out why – and how – the head is so important.
“Dr. Buri’s talk will be of interest to anyone interested in finding, sustaining or maintaining love in their life … from those yet to find a mate to those married many years,” she said.
Buri’s talk is the first in the Healthy Relationship Series sponsored by Family Studies. The program offers an interdisciplinary major and minor designed to educate students about families and the role of families in building healthy persons, relationships and communities.
The second lecture in the series, “The Changing Face of Fatherhood: Cultural Context and Challenges,” will be given at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27, also in James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall of Anderson Student Center. The speaker is Dr. Kirsten Lind Seal, a faculty member in the Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Program at St. Mary's University of Minnesota.
The April 27 lecture also is free and open to the public and will include free pizza and soda.
Members of the St. Thomas Family Studies faculty will be available before and after both lectures to answer questions about the program.
