All welcome to Heritage Week receptions in St. Paul and Minneapolis

All are invited to the Heritage Week receptions

University of St. Thomas students, staff and faculty are invited to attend one of this week's receptions that are a traditional highlight of the university's annual Heritage Week.

  • St. Paul campus reception and program – The reception on the St. Paul campus will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the first-floor lounge of Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The reception is co-sponsored by STAR (St. Thomas Activities and Recreation).
  • Minneapolis campus reception and program – The reception on the Minneapolis campus will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the atrium of Terrence Murphy Hall.

Those attending either reception can enjoy a light lunch, hear a welcome by St. Thomas President Father Dennis Dease, meet some of the St. Thomas Day award recipients, see a PowerPoint presentation celebrating 30 years of undergraduate coeducation, hear a Concert Choir performance, and visit with art history students who will present a poster session on Emmanuel Masqueray, the architect of the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Students in Victoria Young’s art history survey course will present the themes of Masqueray’s life and profession, his time at St. Thomas, his sacred spaces in Minnesota, and his work beyond the state. The students will be on hand to discuss their work with Heritage Week guests.

Also part of the receptions will be a PowerPoint presentation by Dr. Corrine Carvalho, director of the Luann Dummer Center for Women, highlighting the 30th anniversary of undergraduate coeducation at St. Thomas as seen through the eyes of current and former students.

Finally, the university's Concert Choir, under the direction of Nathan Knoll, will perform three songs in the spirit of the "opening doors" theme of this year's Heritage Week.

In conjunction with the receptions, plan to see the "I'm a Tommie " exhibit in the foyer of O'Shaughnessy Educational Center and in the windows of the Luann Dummer Center for Women, also on the first floor of O'Shaughnessy Educational Center.  In words and pictures, the exhibit tells stories of current and former women students at St. Thomas.

The exhibit is on display through Friday, March 7, and is sponsored by the Luann Dummer Center for Women.
