And the State Fair Giveaway for 2011 is ... ?

The envelope please: And the State Fair 2011 giveaway is … a purple bag!

PURPLE BAG SIGHTING: A University of St. Thomas Minnesota State Fair purple bag was spotted at the Johannesburg Airport in South Africa in late January. Proud owner of the bag is Cierra Hoffman, a senior nursing major at St. Catherine University. She was returning to the United States after studying abroad in South Africa and Namibia for a Global Search for Justice class. "The bag came in handy to carry some of my last-minute souvenirs I couldn't pass up at the airport," Hoffman said. Next to her is a statue of Nelson Mandela.

University Relations is ordering its State Fair supply of the ever-popular bags – seen throughout the world. To take advantage of the volume discount, submit your order (100-bag minimum) by Wednesday, March 9. Bags can be used by departments, schools, colleges, clubs and organizations. The art will be different from last year’s bag, but it will be white print on both sides and very St. Thomas, of course.

The bags cost 45 cents each. To order, contact Joanne Pauley, (651) 962-6407,  in University Relations, by March 9. Include the budget index number and delivery location.

The one stipulation is that the bags should not be used until after the State Fair, which ends Labor Day
