Dr. John Martens, associate professor, Theology Department, and Master of Arts program director, School of Divinity, will deliver the fall Archbishop Ireland Memorial Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium at the University of St. Thomas.
Martens will examine Jesus’ sayings on the welcoming and reception of children in the early church. He also will reflect on Jesus’ and the Apostle Paul’s teachings that each person is a child of God and called to be adopted into the family of God. In addition, he will reflect on the practical implications of Jesus’ teachings regarding the role and place of children in the church and the ways in which the church functions as a family.
The Archbishop Ireland Memorial Lecture is co-sponsored by the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity and the Archbishop Ireland Memorial Library.
