Bike helmet and light set available for only $20
UST students, faculty and staff now can purchase a bicycle helmet and a light set for only $20.
There are more than 600 deaths a year in the United States from bicycle accidents and 75 percent of these deaths are due to the rider not wearing a helmet. This data doesn't include the countless serious head injuries from crashes. The state of Minnesota also requires all bicycles riders to have a front and rear light at night visible from 500 feet away.
The package that the St. Thomas bike club, Bike Enthusiasts At St. Thomas (BEAST), put together and the Wellness Center will distribute can provide for both of these needs. "I always wear my helmet," said UST graduate student and BEAST member Jason Onerheim. It has saved my life at least three times, the most memorable being a few years ago when a car ran a red light and crashed into me. My bike was trashed and I had severe bruising on my leg, but my head was OK."
Buy your helmet and light set during office hours beginning Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Health and Human Services desk, lower level of Brady Hall.
