In front of St. Thomas’ largest virtual gathering since courses moved online, President Julie Sullivan on May 13 provided a glimpse of what an in-person fall semester may look like as the community prepares to guard itself against the COVID-19 virus.
Dr. Katharine Hill has accepted the offer to become the next director of the School of Social Work. In this capacity, she will have oversight and strategic responsibility for the BSW, MSW and BSW programs. Hill will join the Morrison Family College of Health as the director of the School of Social Work and start her role on July 1, 2020.
Dr. Mark Stansbury-O’Donnell will serve a two-year term as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) beginning July 1. Drs. Lisa Waldner, Jayna Ditty and Kris Wammer will continue to serve as associate deans during his appointment.
Gov. Tim Walz today announced a statewide “stay-at-home” executive order aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota. Because of the measures we have already taken, we anticipate any additional impact of this order to our university is minimal.
Amid uncertainty and fear are times when characters are tested. These last several weeks have made many fearful, anxious and angry, among a slew of other emotions. No matter how you might feel during this time, spreading racism is not the answer.
Looking forward, the university is anticipating significant changes coming in fall 2020. The opening of the new residence halls and the Iversen Center for Faith, the adoption of the campus-wide sustainability plan, and a focus on emergency preparedness all create new opportunities for Auxiliary Services to assess current operations and adjust where warranted.
President Julie Sullivan has announced all classes will temporarily move online starting Monday, March 16. No in-person classes will be held until Tuesday, April 14 (students’ first day back from the Easter holiday), at the earliest.

After careful deliberation, and out of an abundance of caution, the university has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the Saint John Vianney/Catholic Studies Rome Semester and to close our Bernardi Campus.
