Beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 all classes at the University of St. Thomas will be cancelled due to extreme cold temperatures. All day and evening classes will also be cancelled on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019.
Four Residence Life construction projects will begin on campus next summer. In addition to the Chapel Expansion announced last week, the University of St. Thomas is moving forward with plans to build two new residence halls with underground parking and to begin renovations at Brady and Dowling Residence Halls over the next three summers.
The University of St. Thomas has a new vice president and director of athletics. Phil Esten ‘95 will return to his alma mater in January, bringing with him a breadth of experience from athletics leadership positions at Penn State University; the University of California, Berkeley; the University of Minnesota and The Ohio State University.
The university’s regular paid holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day) fall on weekdays this year (Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1). We will provide three additional paid “gift days” on Dec. 26, 27 and 28.
Tragedy has struck our St. Thomas community, again. We are mourning the loss of first-year student Joia Simpson, who fell from the 10th floor of The Bridges apartments in Dinkytown early Thursday morning, Nov. 1.
On Oct. 19, we were deeply saddened to learn of a bias-motivated incident in Brady Hall. It is a blatant disregard for our university commitment to be welcoming and inclusive and our conviction to diversity. The university is actively investigating the incident and calls on anyone who may have knowledge of the situation to come forward.
