Counseling and Psychological Services Offers Fall Support Groups

Feeling lonely, stressed, wanting better relationships, or need help accepting yourself? Counseling and Psychological Services is offering four groups this fall for students wishing to gain support, learn new coping strategies and connect with others about their concerns.

Interested students should call the counseling center as soon as possible at (651) 962-6780 to set up brief intake appointments; groups will begin in early October. All groups are free and confidential, and will meet in the CPS group room, Room 370, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.

The groups:

I-Connect

Feeling sad and missing home? Wishing you could make friends faster? Wondering if you’re the only person who feels this way? Connections is a group specially created for new students (first-years and transfers) who are feeling homesick or not yet connected to the university community. Come share your experiences, gain ideas for getting involved and feel supported as you adjust to college life. I-Connect will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. If you’re interested, call (651) 962-6780 for more information, or e-mail Sarah Armstrong  or Andy Katz.

Strategies for Stress and Anxiety

Is college life stressing you out? Are you worrying? Anxious? Overloaded? Fearful? Learn how to manage your stress in a healthy way using cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness meditation and group support. The group will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays. For more information e-mail Jeri Rockett  or Andy Katz.

Creating Positive Body Image Group

This is a group for women who are interested in improving their body image through talking with others, creative activity and personal reflection. The goal of the group is to help students accept their bodies and, in turn, themselves. The group will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays in Room 370, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. E-mail Deb Broderick or Jocelyn Lebow for more information.

Relationships Group

How do you relate to the people in your life? Ever wonder how others see you? Get feedback and ideas for addressing these questions and enhance your personal relationships, increase self-awareness, and strengthen communication skills. Join the group from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, call (651) 962-6780, or e-mail Steve Maurer or Sydney Felker.
