A new Edina home that was built to help raise funds for real estate scholarships and programs at the University of St. Thomas is now finished and featured on the spring Parade of Homes tour.
The project, which got underway last July, also served as a learning tool for the university’s undergraduate and graduate students.
The home is located at 6443 McCauley Terrace in Edina. It overlooks the west side of Arrowhead Lake and is situated on a quiet, wooded cul-de-sac southeast of highways 169 and 212-62.
The St. Thomas home is No. 280 in the Parade of Homes book. Homes on the tour can be visited from noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays to Sundays until March 30.
The project’s general contractor is JMS Custom Homes, which is also a major sponsor. Other donors and sponsors who have donated to the project with in-kind gifts and building materials include members of the university’s Real Estate Advisory Board, Crown Bank, Edina Realty, Marvin Windows and Doors, Shenehon Co., Alexander Design Group, Metropolitan Pipe and Supply, Outdoor Designs, Builders Association of the Twin Cities, Kraus Anderson, Barton Sand and Gravel, Cemstone, Muska Lighting, Regalwood Cabinets, Veit, Warners Stellian and Ziegler.
The five-bedroom, six-bath home includes a sports court, custom kitchen, third-floor loft and media room. The house also follows “Green Path” standards endorsed by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. The standards encourage energy efficiency in appliances, lighting, heating and air conditioning.
The list price of the home is $1,695,000. The difference between the sale price of the home and the cost to build it will be donated to support St. Thomas real estate students and programs.
The project has allowed St. Thomas real estate students to get hands-on experience with planning, building and marketing a home.
St. Thomas offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in real estate. The university’s Shenehon Center for Real Estate also provides executive and continuing-education programs for residential and commercial real estate professionals, holds conferences and special events, and sponsors the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame.
