Mark your calendar for the next Luann Dummer Center for Women book club meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The group invites the campus community to join the discussion of Dreams of Trespass: Tales of a Harem Girlhood, by Fatima Mernissi, to be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the women’s center, Room 103, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center.
Dreams of Trespass is a “magical” and absorbing tale of growing up in Fez, Morocco, in the 1940s. It depicts the domestic harem in which the extended family keeps the women mostly apart from society, as opposed to the more stereotypical imperial harem that historically provided sex for sultans and other powerful court officials.
You don’t need to have finished the book (or even have started it) to attend; bring a lunch and beverage and enjoy a lively conversation.
