Wellness U, a new, comprehensive wellness program for the university's faculty and staff, is being offered this fall by the Department of Human Resources.
What is all this talk about “wellness,” anyway? It’s a widely used catch-phrase nowadays, but you may not know just what it means to UST or what it has to do with you. In both cases – a whole lot!
St. Thomas knows that healthy employees are happy employees, and happy employees are what we’re after. Wellness U focuses on promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices and offers an array of programs and activities. Employees learn ways to develop and incorporate healthy choices into their lifestyles through education and activity, resulting in healthier employees, improved morale, reduced absenteeism, and health care savings for both employees and the university.
The new Wellness U website will lead you down a path filled with information and access. Find out how to make working out affordable or even free by visiting the Let’s Get Physical page. Get the latest news on wellness and tidbits you can use in your day-to-day life at Now Read This!
Get in Touch with Us provides on-campus and related resources, and Want to Know More? will send you to outside points of interest in the world of wellness, including links to disease assessment sites, stress relieving techniques, local walking maps, and area farmers’ markets. A Wealth of Health sums up all the health programs that Human Resources sponsors and promotes throughout the year.
To kick off Wellness U, Human Resources invites all benefits-eligible employees to participate in one of the health screenings that will take place in early October on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses. Employees will receive a customized report of their results, which they can share and discuss with their personal physician.
The entire process will take less than 30 minutes and is administered by licensed health care professionals. Screenings are a great source of information on how to improve certain lifestyle practices or identify risk factors for preventable conditions. In some cases, the screenings surface undiagnosed conditions that can be treated at an early stage with a very good chance of success.
All benefits-eligible employees will receive through campus mail and via e-mail a copy of the health screening brochure. Best of all, Human Resources is providing an incentive to participate – $10 will automatically be added on to your Tommie Card upon the completion of your screening.
