Jewish-Christian center to host Feb. 10 talk here on 'Jewish Approaches to Peacemaking'
A rabbi from the Jay Phillips Center for Jewish-Christian Learning of St. John’s University and the University of St. Thomas will discuss "Peace is the Name of God: Jewish Approaches to Peacemaking" in two upcoming talks, one at St. Thomas and the other at St. John's.
The talks will be given by Rabbi Amy Eilberg. Free and open to the public, the talks will be held:
- At 8 pm. Monday, Feb. 9, in the Quadrangle's Alumni Lounge at St. John's in Collegeville.
- At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the third-floor lounge of Murray-Herrick Campus Center on St. Thomas' St. Paul campus.
Eilberg will discuss traditional Jewish perspectives -- needed more than ever in times of war -- that promote compassionate listening, mutual respect, healing, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
A consultant to the Jay Phillips Center, Eilberg is engaged in efforts of peace and reconciliation, especially in connection with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In 1985 she became the first woman ordained as a rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. She was a co-founder of the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center, where she directed its Jewish Hospice Care Program, and is a founding co-director of the Yehida Center for Jewish Spiritual Direction. A leader of the Jewish healing movement, she lectures and writes on issues of Jewish spirituality, healing and spiritual direction.
