This spring a select group of BUS200 students will organize and host the 10th Annual Listening House Silent Auction, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 19. Interested in joining this amazing team?
Why get involved?
To date BUS200 students have raised more than $125,000 for Listening House, with each year’s total surpassing the previous year. Typically, the team’s efforts mean that the operating costs for Listening House are covered for one month. You will truly be making an enormous difference in the lives of many people who are often cast aside.
And, while the work involved might stretch you – seeking donations, intense project management – all three BUS200 Learning Seminars are integrated into the monthly team meetings, which saves you a bit of time.
What is Listening House?
Located near the Excel Center in St. Paul, Listening House is a sanctuary from the streets where practical assistance, counsel and a friendly ear are offered to people who are homeless, lonely and in need of friendship. While humble in nature, Listening House serves more than 200 people daily.
Your responsibilities
Each student on the team is responsible for soliciting donations, obtaining cash donations and selling tickets; additionally, each team member will serve on a LHSA committee: Solicitations Coordination, Marketing, Finance, Logistics, Corporate Involvement, and Alumni Connections. As this year is the 10th anniversary we will be contacting all students who have been involved in the auction in the past to spend the evening with us.
The entire Team will meet once a month, and committees will meet regularly as needed. Attendance at all meetings and the event is mandatory; additionally, all team members will need to assist with set up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, and beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 19. We will all be present to host the event and then clean up, which typically ends around midnight; finally, each team member will spend time at Listening House to learn more about the folks you are serving.
