Michael Cogan named director of institutional research
Dr. Michael Cogan has been appointed director of institutional research at the University of St. Thomas.
In this position, Cogan will be responsible for reporting university data to federal and state agencies; analysis and research support related to program review, cost feasibility, student outcomes assessment, and accreditation; and research on institutional climate, employee and alumni satisfaction.
Cogan, an assistant professor in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota since 2003, was UND’s associate registrar for two years and also worked at three universities in New Mexico as an academic adviser and assistant coordinator of testing and assessment.
A New Mexico native, Cogan earned his bachelor’s degree from Western New Mexico University in 1995, followed by a master’s degree in school administration in 1997. In 2004 he earned his Ph.D. in research methodologies and educational leadership from the University of North Dakota, where his dissertation research focused on the success of undergraduate students who were academically dismissed and subsequently reinstated.
Among his other professional affiliations, Cogan is a member of the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education and the Association for Institutional Research.
Cogan and his wife, Monica, and their two children plan a move from Grand Forks to the Twin Cities.
