Moving off campus? Check out these renter resources
If you soon will become a first-time renter or if you live off campus and want to learn more, there are numerous resources available for you.
Here are some helpful resources to try:
- Read “Renter Resources,” available at the Commuter Center, lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center, or online.
- Attend one of the “Renter 101” information sessions:
- 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the lobby, Selby Hall
- Noon Tuesday, March 7, in Room 210, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center
- Noon Thursday, March 30, in Room 210, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center
- 4 p.m. Monday, April 10, in the second-floor lounge, Morrison Hall
- Stop by the Commuter Center to talk with one of the student staff members, who typically are available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Take advantage of the free legal advice that UST provides to students. The attorneys can review leases or other legal documents such as sublease or co-tenant agreements. Visit the Legal Advice Web page for the attorneys’ schedules on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses.
- Check out the housing listings available online at the Off-Campus Housing Web page. There are summer and fall listings already available for viewing. Listings are updated daily.
- Talk to your friends who live off campus to find out their opinion of their neighborhood, their landlord, etc. Walk through the areas of the neighborhood to see if there are any “for rent” signs displayed.
- Visit the Public Safety and Parking Services Web site to learn more about commuter parking permits, city bus routes and free walking escorts.
Make sure that living off-campus is a great experience for you by taking the time to learn more about your rights and responsibilities.
