Distractions from cell phone use, hand-held or hands-free, while driving affects a driver’s reaction as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent. Drivers who use cell phones are four times more likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves.
To discourage distracted driving, the Wellness Center is sponsoring the “No Phone Zone” pledge. Students are invited to sign the pledge and submit a copy to the center in the lower level of Koch Commons. The first 50 students who bring in a copy of their pledge will receive a prize. The pledge also can be found on the center’s website.
