Nominations Open Today for 2011 Diversity Leadership Award

By: Diversity Leadership Award Committee

Nominations open today for the 2011 Diversity Leadership Award. One award will be given this year, recognizing individual faculty and staff, or academic or service units, who have demonstrated a respect and value for diversity at St. Thomas.

Successful nominees actively and positively promote the concept of diversity by improving cross-cultural understanding; are committed to the spirit of diversity; and are committed to the inclusion within the university of under-represented groups.

Examples of this type of activity can include: efforts to support recruitment and retention of students of color; incorporating concepts of diversity in curricula; research aimed to improve diversity and inclusion at St. Thomas; leading workshops, working groups or committees to support UST diversity efforts; and other work to create a climate of tolerance, acceptance and understanding on St. Thomas campuses.

The deadline for award nominations is Monday, Feb. 14. Visit St. Thomas Diversity website to complete the online nomination form, or you may print and complete the form and mail it to the Office for Mission, Mail AQU 104. Nominations from students, staff and faculty are welcome.

The Diversity Leadership Award will be presented publicly at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebration on April 1. For more information contact Susan Spray, chair of the Diversity Leadership Award Committee, (651) 962-6984.
