October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Today is officially the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from cells of the breast. It is found mostly in women, but men can get breast cancer, too. The American Cancer Society reports that about 182,460 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2008. About 40,480 women will die from the disease this year.
Early detection is crucial. During the week of Oct. 13, watch for Wellness Center staff in various locations with pink ribbons, cards to send to special women in your lives and more.
