Raffle tickets in support of Open Arms of Minnesota, a St. Thomas community partner, are available on campus from Mary Twite, an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. Open Arms is a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers free meals specifically tailored to meet the nutritional needs of individuals living with serious and life-threatening diseases.
St. Thomas faculty members and students partner with various organizations for course-based service-learning. Open Arms of Minnesota is one of the university's ongoing partners.
Tickets are $20. The raffle features three prizes, made possible by a grant from the Walser Foundation:
- $1,000 cash.
- A two-night getaway for two in Las Vegas, including $600 in Sun Country airline vouchers, a limo ride from the airport, a three-night hotel stay at a Caesar’s property, and dinners at Spago and Tommy Bahama’s Restaurant. Dates determined by winner.
- A Walser Mazda 3i touring sedan – two-year lease. The prize includes a two-year lease based on eligibility. No cash option. Automobile tax and license included. Winner is responsible for any other potential fees and taxes and is encouraged to consult a personal tax adviser.
The Drawing will be held — in the order above — on Thursday, May 19, at Movable Feast; winner need not be present. Open Arms of Minnesota hopes to raise $50,000 through the raffle, which equates to ingredients for 46,728 meals.
