President’s Forum on April 6 to focus on St. Thomas climate for students of color

I would like to invite faculty, staff and students to attend the spring semester President’s Forum to be held on Thursday, April 6, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in 304 Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The forum will be video-conferenced to Thornton Auditorium on the Minneapolis campus. Refreshments will be available.

I would like to focus this semester’s forum on issues of the climate for students of color on the St. Thomas campus. We were disheartened and disappointed by the recent incident in which racial slurs and hate messages aimed at African-Americans were written in a St Thomas residence hall. I would like to have an opportunity to listen to the community to hear your insights into what we can do to assure that St. Thomas is a welcoming place for all our students.

The President’s Forum gives me an opportunity each semester to engage in some informal dialogue with members of the St. Thomas community. I won’t give a speech, but I look forward to responding to your questions and comments.

I look forward to seeing you there.
