Dr. Dave Brennan, Marketing Department, Opus College of Business, presented “Is Walmart’s Global Expansion Strategy at Odds With Its Domestic Strategy?” based on a publication co-written with Dr. Lorman Lundsten, Marketing Department, Opus College of Business, to the Minnesota Chapter of the Association of Strategic Planning in Minneapolis on Feb. 28.

Dr. Massimo Faggioli, Theology Department, College of Arts and Sciences, was the first recipient of the "Peter R. D'Agostino Research Travel Grant,” offered by the Italian Studies Center and the Cushwa Center of the University of Notre Dame. The grant is designed to facilitate the study of the American past from an international perspective and supports research in Vatican and Roman archives.

Dr. Paul Gavrilyuk, Theology Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of El Sufrimiento del Dios Impasible, trans. Juan García-Baró (Salamanca, Spain: Ediciones Sígueme, 2012). This is an expanded Spanish edition of The Suffering of the Impassible God (Oxford, 2004) with a new concluding chapter (pp. 225-253), offering a constructive theological proposal that builds on the historical argument of the book.

T. Dean Maines, president of the Veritas Institute of the Opus College of Business, presented "Institutionalizing Ethical Conduct in Organizations: The SAIP Method" to graduate students in the Masters in CSR program at La Pontificia Università S. Tommaso D'Aquino (Angelicum) in Rome on Feb. 23.

Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Justice and Peace Studies Department, College of Arts and Sciences, is the author of Authentic Hope: It's the End of the World as We Know It but Soft Landings Are Possible, Orbis Books, 2012.

Drew Puroway, Academic Counseling, wrote an article titled “Three Approaches to Everyday Dilemmas” that was published in the most recent issue of the National Academic Advising Association’s quarterly electronic publication, Academic Advising Today (Vol 35:1).

John Wendt, Ethics and Business Law Department, Opus College of Business, is the author of an article titled “The FEI and The Continuing Fight Against Doping in Equestrian Sport” that has been accepted for publication by the International Sports Law Journal, the official publication of the ASSER International Sports Law Centre located in The Hague, Netherlands.   Wendt and Dr. John Miller of Troy University also presented “Tragedy at Fujairah: Risk Management Issues at Open-Water Swimming Events” at the 2011 Sport Entertainment & Venues Tomorrow at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

Dr. Meg Wilkes Karraker, Sociology Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and Family Business Center Fellow, is the author of Families With Futures: A Survey of Family Studies Into the 21st Century (2nd edition, © 2012, Routledge). Her co-author is Janet Grochowski, professor emerita, now Endowed Chair in Education at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University. Families with Futures includes “The Sacred Life Cycle of Families,” an essay by Father Craig Albrecht ’91, Sociology Department, College of Arts and Sciences; “MADDADS Reclaiming Communities for Families,” by Sarah Zimmerman ’11; and "Coming Out of Another Closet: Domestic Violence in Lesbian and Gay Relationships," by Dr. Lisa Waldner, Sociology Department and Criminal Justice Department, College of Arts and Sciences. The book also includes a discussion of family businesses by Dr. Ritch Sorenson, Opus Endowed Chair in Family Business.
