PSST (Poetry Slam St. Thomas) presents Poetry Slam 5 on Oct. 19

From Lisa Arnold
University of St. Thomas-College of St. Catherine Theater Department

PSST (Poetry Slam St. Thomas) presents Poetry Slam 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Scooter’s, lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Sign-up is at 6:30 p.m. UST students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate.

If you want to perform, bring two poems, and remember:

  • You must be the author of your poems
  • You may read your poetry or it may be memorized
  • Poems can be up to three minutes long
  • No props, costumes or musical accompaniment are allowed

Judges are selected from the audience. The person with the most points wins; although points are not the point, the point is the poetry!

This event is free, but we do suggest a $3 donation that helps provide door prizes, cash for the top winner, an awesome host from the Minneapolis Slam Team, and we’re trying to raise money to go to nationals in Texas this spring – best $3 deal in town.

If you’d like to join our organization or want to take part in our informal feedback session, join us at noon Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the Blue Lagoon, outside the Grill in Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The feedback session provides you an opportunity to get advice on your poetry before your performance at the slam.

If you have any questions about our organization specifically or poetry slam in general, please contact me via e-mail.
