Public Safety would like to alert the University of St. Thomas community of a theft in O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library.
At 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, a UST student reported her unattended laptop was stolen from a desk on the lower level of the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library. The student reported she stepped away from her laptop to use the restroom and returned after approximately 10 minutes and it was gone.
The student reported seeing a possible suspect in the area a few minutes before she stepped away. The student said the suspect stood out because he was walking through the lower level area, but did not appear to be looking for books or anything in particular, and did not have a book bag or backpack.
Library staff later reported encountering the suspect in a lower level area generally not accessed by students. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 22 years old, tall, slim, with short black hair, wearing a black pea coat and dark pants.
Officers searched the library and surrounding areas. The suspect could not be located.
The University of St. Thomas believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist in identifying the perpetrator of this incident.
