Public Safety would like to update the University of St. Thomas community of a robbery that occurred at Grand Avenue and Finn Street.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, a St. Thomas student reported she was walking westbound on Grand Avenue when she encountered an unidentified suspect, who was walking northbound on Finn Street. The suspect stopped the student on the southeast corner of the intersection. The student reported the suspect approached her and brandished a small handgun. The suspect demanded money, but took the student’s phone and purse. The suspect then turned and walked south on Finn Street, then broke into a run and fled the scene.
The St. Paul Police Department was contacted and is investigating this incident. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, black hair with twists, no facial hair and wearing a black or gray sweatshirt.
The University of St. Thomas believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist in identifying the perpetrator of this incident.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact SPPD at (651) 291-1111.
