A day in the life of King Boreas: Thursday, Jan. 24, 2004

7 a.m. — With a temperature of -17 degrees, it's clear you're in the realm of Boreas, King of the Snows. King Boreas Rex LXVIII is John Bennett '80. During the 2004 St. Paul Winter Carnival, Boreas and his Royal Family reigned over the nation's largest winter carnival and "The Coolest Celebration on Earth."

7:30 a.m. — Breakfast with the Vulcans. Two alumni are members of the Vulcan Krewe, Larry Anderson '81 and Jim Hynes '79.

9:30 a.m. — Mendota Elementary School.

10:30 — Henry Sibley High School. Bennett is met with a poster showing his graduation picture with the title "Once and Future King."

1:10 p.m. — Junior and Senior Coronation at Landmark Center. While there were no official duties at this event, the Royal Family attended the coronations and congratulated each of the newly crowned royals. King Winter XLVI for 2004 was Gary Ales '62, '64 M.A.

2:30 p.m. — Sheridan Elementary School. In true fashion of knowing his subjects, Bennett greeted the assembles students in Hmong, Spanish and English. He talked about how a colorful bunch of faces make up the school and are a true reflection of St. Paul.

7:15 p.m. — Night at the Ice Palace. The crowds of people who have braved the weather seem to warm the Royal Family.

8:45 — Dinner hosted by North Wind Roger Vannelli '94. The dinner is for the Royal Family and community and is held at St. Bernard's, across the street from the business Vannelli owns. The tradition of giving back to the community is a large part of the Winter Carnival.

11 p.m. — St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Royal family unveiled the Friday, Jan. 30, clue for the prized medallion.
