Between the time you receive your May copy of Perspectives and the time you hold the December issue in your hands, Catholic Studies touches the lives of many people on and off campus through summer offerings and fall activities. Summer provides special opportunities and classes for groups of students. The Leadership Interns end their yearlong formation program with a 10-day Spring Institute, which helps them examine and reflect on a particular aspect of leadership in the Church and society. In June, Catholic Studies master’s students who might not be able to participate in classes during the school year, such as Dominican sisters from Ann Arbor, Mich., and Nashville, Tenn., arrive on campus for our summer program.In the fall, Catholic Studies offers a wealth of academic, spiritual and social programs for the campus community and alumni. Annual social events, such as the ice cream social, the alumni Mass and barbeque and the talent show are highlights of the year for many students and alumni. Catholic Studies hosts several speakers, who address topics ranging from culture to human dignity, from Christopher Dawson to balancing the budget. Students and faculty are offered regular opportunities to gather together for Mass, dinner and discussion. The first semester ends with the opportunity for master’s students who are finishing their degrees to share their learning through essay presentations.Experience life in Catholic Studies through our timeline of the past seven months on the following pages.
