Please remember in your prayers Philip Des Marais '42, who died May 19 in Sarasota, Fla.

Des Marais, 91, graduated from St. Thomas in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII. He studied at Georgetown University, taught political science at St. Thomas and was a vice president at St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans, La. He served as deputy assistant secretary at HEW in the Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon administrations.

He moved to New York City to work at Fordham University and was a member of the Holy See Observer Mission to the United Nations. He finished his career at St. Thomas and retired to Sarasota in 1986.

Funeral services were held in Sarasota in May. An obituary and guest book can be viewed at legacy.com.
