Research presentations on health clubs for women and on breast cancer will be given April 28

The next Feminist Friday will feature presentations by two recipients of the 2005-2006 Luann Dummer Center for Women Undergraduate Research Fellowship. The event will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the LDCW, Room 103, O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. Everyone is welcome. Bring your lunch; dessert and beverages will be provided.

Here are descriptions of the research presentations:

  • Laurie Rice will present her research on “The Link Between Breast Cancer and the Overexpression of RAD51.” Recent research has revealed that certain forms of inherited and noninherited breast cancer are related to a defect in pathways needed for repair of damaged DNA. Rice’s faculty adviser on this project is Dr. Thomas Marsh, Chemistry Department.
  • Kelsey Thornton will present her research on “Reconsidering Traditional Health Clubs: Implications for the Future of Women’s Exercise.” Thornton ’s research examines the effects of exercise environment on women’s self-rated body image.  Her faculty adviser is Dr. Elise Amel, Psychology Department.
