St. Thomas Day Award Videos can be Seen Online

The University of St. Thomas community gathered Saturday, March 5, to celebrate its annual St. Thomas Day and to honor recipients of its Humanitarian, Distinguished Alumnus, Professor of the Year, Tommie and Monsignor James Lavin awards.

A video program was prepared and shown for each award recipient.  Those videos now can be seen here by clicking on the links below.

The videos were prepared by Brad Jacobsen of Web and Media Services; Dave Nimmer, professor of journalism and mass communication emeritus; Greg Vandegrift, clinical professor in the Communication and Journalism Department; and seniors Mary Kenkel and Michael Ewen; both are communication and journalism majors.

Distinguished Alumnus – This year's award was given to Timothy Flynn, global chairman of KPMG International, one of the world largest accounting firms.

Humanitarian of the Year – Ryan Schlief, a human rights activist who works for Witness, received the 2011 Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Professor of the Year – Dr. Thomas Connery, a member of the Communication and Journalism Department since 1982 and former dean, is this year's Professor of the Year.

Monsignor James Lavin Award – Dr. James McEnaney, a retired Owatonna physician and a 1952 St. Thomas graduate, received this year's Lavin award. The award honors a volunteer for service to the St. Thomas Alumni Association.

Tommie Award -- Daniel Carr, of Dickinson, N.D., won the 2011 Tommie Award, a 79-year-old honor that has been given annually to a St. Thomas senior who exemplifies the ideals of the university.
