St. Thomas law students advance to ABA National Negotiation Competition

A team from the University of St. Thomas School of Law has advanced to national competition in the American Bar Association's National Negotiation Competition.

Law students Susan Kuhl and John Wittig finished second in the Law Student Division in the ABA's Region 7 competition Nov. 10 at William Mitchell College of Law.

Region 7 includes law schools from Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Manitoba. Also competing for St. Thomas were Erin Collins and Scott Nelson, who placed eighth among 16 teams from eight law schools.

The annual competition promotes greater interest among law students in legal negotiation and provides a means for them to practice and improve their negotiating skills. Teams compete in simulations of legal negotiations and are judged by practicing attorneys, judges and law school faculty.

Since its first entry in the negotiation competition four years ago, St. Thomas students have advanced to national competition three times. This year's national finals will be held Feb. 8-9, 2008, in Los Angeles, where the ABA will hold its midwinter convention.
