Staff Council thanks UST community for donations to December food and fund drive
From the Staff Council
The holiday food and fund drive sponsored by members of the Staff Council in December generated 637 pounds of food donations and $641 in cash donations for a local charity, Second Harvest Heartland. With every $1 donated, Second Harvest can purchase approximately $9 worth of food, since they have working relationships with many of the big food manufacturers and can buy in bulk. That means our $641 in cash donations enabled Second Harvest to distribute nearly $5,700 worth of grocery products to help low-income families.
Staff Council members thank everyone who generously donated food items or cash to the drive. Also, special thanks to departments that hosted drop boxes (see Bulletin Today article published on Dec. 8, 2005).
Second Harvest Heartland is the region’s largest hunger relief organization. The organization operates a variety of programs designed to combat hunger through specific channels of distribution. Among the recipients of the products and the beneficiaries of the programs are children, the elderly, the working poor and thousands of additional disadvantaged members of the communities in our area.
