Take Back the Night marchers rally today
Take Back the Night, an event to inspire both women and men to confront gender violence, will feature a march and rally today, Monday, April 27. To participate, meet under the arches at 7 p.m.
Take Back the Night is a longstanding tradition taking place on college campuses and in communities around the world. Some trace its roots to 1877 when women gathered to protest the fear and violence they experienced in the night-time streets of London, England.
"This fear and violence still exists. In a world where one in six women and one in 33 men experience sexual assault, and where LGBT brothers and sisters are attacked directly because of their sexual orientation, the need for voices to speak out against gender violence still exists," said Kristin Erickson, event organizer.
This event is co-sponsored by the Luann Dummer Center for Women and the UST Women's Circle. It is open and welcoming to those who speak out against gender violence.
